From Darkness to Light

This post is general in nature because I need to speak to the skeptics out there about demons (satan’s workers) and fear. I continue to read post after post which makes light of Satan and his practices. But I can assure you this is no joke.

In a thousand posts easily found in a search of the internet one can find site after site that pokes fun at evangelicals who raise a warning flag about the dangers of association when it comes to things of the dark side. Ouija Boards, fantasy games like Dungeons and Dragons, witchcraft or brujeria; all are directly or indirectly associated with an involvement in things not of God.

A few days ago I met with a Pastor and his family to talk about the work From Darkness to Light is beginning and to get his view on the direction we are taking. Among other things he told me he is teaching in his church each week a series on Satan and his power and the means by which he is infiltrating the church. He told me of demons possessing people in his village and his involvement in the families. But of particular interest was one story his daughter told of visits in the night by a demon intending to frighten her.

It started one night at about 2:00 a.m. when she was awakened by a presence on top of her. I call it a presence because when she awoke in the midst of a gripping fear she was immediately aware of the lack of a physical presence by what was trying to undo the clothes she was sleeping in. By impulse out of her fear she immediately began praying, asking God for help. And straightaway the presence left.

This happened several times along with nightmares that would cause her to awaken in a fit of fear. She told of the occurrences to her father who joined in the prayer sessions and made the decision to change bedrooms with his daughter. The occurrences have ceased, thanks be to God!

Jas 4:7 Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I have been told similar stories from other Christians and have read even more from both Christian and non-Christian. Some Christians believe these presences are from God, perhaps are their guardian angel or spirit guide or whatever else Satan tries to use to convince one of his power. And make no mistake: Satan has power, far more than you or I. But not far more than He who leads us. That is certain.

I will relay more stories of this nature in coming days, both from the past and the present as God sees fit. I leave you with this verse, which Elizabeth in the story above knows very well:

1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
