In a stunning turn of events (or is it?) the Church has largely turned it’s back on the importance of Satan and the topic of Demon Possession, especially in the recent past. Specifically is the question of whether or not a Christian can be demon possessed. Actually, many churches that otherwise walk the straight and narrow when it comes to following God seem to ignore the warnings given throughout the Bible concerning Satan and his demon’s, demonic practices, the counterfeiting of all things Godly, etc.

You say you can’t remember being warned about these things, about fighting with Satan, about the possibility and downright certainty of being oppressed by, if not possessed by demon’s? It’s no wonder. Again, the church, God’s people have chosen to tread lightly when it comes to the topic of spiritual warfare and demon possession or oppression.

Just for the sake of discussion, can you remember a story of a mother killing her children, school kids killing other school kids, men killing women-and saying "the devil made me do it?" Maybe not in those words but of course you can! It happens daily around the world but you only hear of the extreme cases where the action was actually taken and terrible things happened. And what do we say of the person committing these heinous actions? That they are crazy. That is about all. Put them in the hospital, drug them up and go back to singing "What a friend we have in Jesus" which is a song I like but there is a time for everything.

So why is this? Why can we not believe that demons can and do speak with an audible voice to people? It’s Biblical, no? Why do we not minister to these people, many of whom are obviously oppressed or possessed by demonic entities? In a word? Fear. Because we are afraid.

We are afraid that everyone who wants an out from the bad things they do will start to call upon the name of Satan to justify their actions. We are afraid that demons really do exist and they are actively representing their leader. We are afraid that Satan really is roaming the earth seeking whom he may devour. And moreover, we are afraid they might find us!

Could it really be that simple? Yes, I believe it can. We are afraid! Afraid to confront the devil, Satan and his demons. Afraid to admit there are witches and witchcraft and spells. Even afraid that we will be a target if we get involved. How sad.

We are told as Christians to put on the armor of God to fight the devil and his demons. We are told to watch for them at every turn. We are told not to be surprises by their tactics and that God will crush Satan under OUR foot. Then why are we afraid? All the promises and stories and end-time prophesies yet we are still afraid. Why? Because we really don’t believe the promises of God. It’s sad but true.

When fear controls a person, Christian or otherwise, Satan controls that person. Believe it.

Demon Possession; Hector's Story Pt I
The title of this post is a little misleading as even though this is Hector's story it is told by Jim and concerns the demonic possession and subsequent exorcism or deliverance of Hector's sister followed by the death of Hector's brother.
