If you liked that post, then try these...Statement of Faith WE BELIEVE:
The Bible is God's infallible written revelation to man;
There is but one living and true God, an infinite, all-knowing Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence, eternally existing in three Persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
Father-- God the Father, the first person of the Trinity, orders and disposes all things according to His own purpose and grace;
Son-- Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, possesses all the divine excellencies, and in these He is coequal, consubstantial, and coeternal with the Father; Jesus Christ was virgin born; that He was God incarnate; and that the purpose of the incarnation was to reveal God, redeem men, and rule over God's kingdom; Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through the shedding of His blood and sacrificial death on the cross and that His death was voluntary, vicarious, substitutionary, propitiatory, and redemptive; that on the basis of the efficacy of the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, the believing sinner is freed from the punishment, the penalty, the power, and one day the very presence of sin; and that he is declared righteous, given eternal life, and adopted into the family of God and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead and that He is ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He now mediates as our Advocate and High-Priest;
Holy Spirit-- The Holy Spirit is a divine person, eternal, underived, possessing all the attributes of personality and deity, and in all the divine attributes He is coequal and consubstantial with the Father and the Son;

Good morning. It’s 7 a.m. on`June 5, 2008 here in Guatemala and the hurricane remnants from Mexico (actually Tropical Storm Arthur) continue to cause havoc in the Guatemala Highlands. We are located just 15 minutes from Panajachel above Lake Atitlan and the rain continues.
Yesterday say a brief let up of the downpours but last night the rain returned with a vengance and continues falling lightly this morning. Although I heard reports of people in Panajachel located near the river sleeping in relatives houses for fear of a repeat of the Hurricane Stan disaster of 2005 (see the video) there was relatively little damage.

Where’s the FAITH?
Let me get right to it. If you’re a normal Christian, or among those who call themselves a Christian, you are probably living a lie. What a brazen thing to say? Unfortunately, it’s so true.
What is a Christian? From Wikipedia, we find the following:
A Christian is a person who adheres to Christianity, a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the New Testament and interpreted by Christians to have… Continue reading | 2 Comments

The Need to Know
Written by Jim Guffey, April 17, 2005
There is in the Bible a story we’ve all heard. It’s the story of David and Goliath. It’s a really cool story but let me share with you some things that came to my mind as I watched the cartoon with the kids in church today.
The story is simple. The Israelites were on one side and the Philistines on the other. There was to be a great fight. But on the Philistines side was a champion named Goliath, who just happened to be a giant. And rather than fight army against army Goliath issued this challenge:
1 Sa 17:10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies

Trust in the Lord; You Don’t Need to Understand
Sometimes in our lives we have issues which cause us grave problems. Insurmountable problems. Problems beyond our understanding. We question why. And then the big question, why me? Have I committed some great sin? Am I being punished?
The answer is yes. Or maybe no. Or maybe, maybe. What does it matter? Are you a follower of Christ? Then…
Ga2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Ro 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
2Co 5:15 And that

Note: This listing of The Bible in chronological order is taken from an incredibly good author by the name of God (just kidding-He is incredibly good but He is responsible for the Bible, the organization of the content is what I am talking about). The organizers name is F. LaGard Smith and the name of the book is “The Daily Bible In Chronological Order 365 Daily Readings”. It includes devotional insights and is worth it’s weight in gold to me as it really helped to bring all the stories together. Please buy this book in your local Bible bookstore. For the purposes of this posting I have taken the liberty to adapt it slightly by not including parallel entries.
If there is interest I will post the Daily Reading every day. … Continue reading

Why Me Lord?
Sometimes, as a matter of course, things break. Or more precisely, things go wrong. These last three weeks in Guatemala have been a perfect case in point. So many things that happened were not in the plan, or even changed the plan completely. Here is an incomplete list of some of the things:
The night we arrived we had an accident on the highway. Since we’ve been here it has rained almost daily. Several roads in the

Trusting God or Trusting Self?
An experienced mountain climber decides to take on a very steep and rugged mountain, covered with snow and ice. It is a difficult climb but he knows he can do it and he chooses to go without a friend. He has the best of equipment and knows how to use it all so he has little fear of going it alone. So all alone he sets out and begins the climb.
As the day wears on it is getting colder and colder and his rate of climb is slowing down. It’s beginning to get dark and he is still a distance from the top. As darkness settles in he cannot see and realizes he is in Continue reading

A short time later, about nine in the morning she arrived home but she wouldn’t enter the house. Hector was extremely angry and told her he wanted to hit her for doing this not only to herself but to her distraught mother. He talked about girls and bars and prostitutes and his anger built. His brother Hosea stepped in, preventing any further altercation.
Hector is a good-sized man, a tri-athlete 10 years ago. Hosea has more of a bodybuilding physique and is certainly stronger than Hector or most men his age. As he stepped in to prevent Hector from acting out… Continue reading | 3 Comments

Before you read this if you missed Hector’s Story Pt I click to read it.

Seems innocent enough doesn’t it? The writing on this sticker says “it’s not difficult to love me”. But look at the sticker. This sticker above is either a tiger or a cat. How would you describe it? It’s not a kitty or a passive cat. It has an evil look to it. I know, I can hear you now. Another conspiracy theory. But wait, hear me out.
When I took this home and began writing the story my 11-year-old daughter came in and I asked her about the sticker. Understand that in Guatemala, stickers are big deals… Continue reading

The title of this post is a little misleading as even though this is Hector’s story it is told by Jim and concerns the demonic possession and subsequent exorcism or deliverance of Hector’s sister followed by the death of Hector’s brother. It is an incredible story that caused me to change my beliefs with the full understanding that God gives us these experiences so that we may fully walk in the plan he has for us. It is best summed up in my belief by the following verse:
2Co 1:3,4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort

This was written from Guatemala in July of 2005
Well, another strange report from Guatemala! There seem to be so many lately. Anyway, it happened last night while I was working in the house with the lights out, inside and out, with only the light from the computer screen on. As I’m working on the computer with my headphones on I became aware of a cat, or at least what I thought was a cat, letting out the most unholy screech and then rumbling, kind of a growl. This has happened several times but there have been

Our work at The Foundation requires English to Spanish and Spanish to English translation. There are also many dialects within Guatemala, over 30 I believe. We expect to be doing significant study, writing and translating and would be happy to accept any help you may be able to offer, from one day to one week to one decade! If the Lord leads you to think about this possibility, please feel free to e-mail us with any comments and questions.
